Title: The Mozart GROOVE Lounge

What can I say about the Mozart Edition label? I'm not sure how successful it was and how many tracks were used in production; there's a definite Test Card/Tijuana/Brass/Cheese vibe as you go through the label which isn't really my thing.  Many tracks start so positively- thumping beat, or deep bassline, but 8 bars in and there's that brass and not the good kind, but the label has it's charms.
They didn't include descriptions for tracks other than describing the tempo as 'medium beat', 'slow tempo' or 'bright waltz' and the titles often feel inappropriate.  Usually with library records if I'm searching for something funky the title and description often help me find tracks quickly.  A producer would just by pass these by if in a rush- they didn't help themselves get noticed.
The label has deemed good enough to have seen two 'Mozart Lounge' compilations; more easy listening than funk or beat tracks for the sample hungry.  Some great tracks amongst them all the same but they missed some good ones, or at least things I think are good enough to be kept alive.

I hadn't come across the Mozart Groove Lounge before so thank you Retro for filling that particular gap. The other two were released by Apollo Sound who I presume acquired the Mozart Edition library at some time? Though there is a separate website for Mozart Edition where I obtained two of their (different) compilations on CD a while back which I think I have shared before.

I find the ME music is very distinctive and very much reminiscent of the BBC test cards of the 60's. Swinging Spinet by Cliff Hammer (aka Hans Hammerschmid) is a particular favourite of mine and brings back memories of the black and white test card playing on the Ferranti TV my parents rented from Southern Rentals in Brighton. Meanwhile, back in the 21st century......!!

Cheers, I appreciate that.  I realise there’s a couple more decent tracks so I’ll squeeze out a volume 2 soon.

Bit late to the party on this as I've been away for a while.  However, I do have a soft spot for a good Mozart Editions album.  These are great.  I've just been listening to MESLP105 tonight as this is still my favourite album.  Mainly due to it being used by S4C but the side a is great and Flowers from side b is the best one on there.  Thanks to Retronic and Nidostar for these gems !

Thanks for the 2nd volume Retro. Once again many of the tracks were new to me. It always raises a smile when you see some of the tongue-in-cheek track and artist names. Track 13, Soft Fruit, certainly sounds as though they were short of a title and simply looked around the room for inspiration. And of course the cheeky Peter Oscarsson at track 1. To me it suggests they all had a good laugh when writing/recording these tracks which is at it should be. Music should be fun.

It is a bit arbitrary.  There could have been someone desperate for a cheap 007 knock off but Soft Fruit wouldn’t give you any clue would it!
