Emptiest library LP sides?
« on: March 11, 2018, 04:03:31 PM »
I just noticed that Side 1 of Chappell LPC 512-515, which is Robert Farnon's Harp Interludes, is less than six minutes of music in total, I expect that that makes it easier to navigate the eighteen little cues therein but I was what other particularly short library LP sides might spring to mind?

The first thing that springs to mind are the early Chappell 78s, which were single sided, containing 1 cue on the A-side, and nothing on the other. Though a bit of an odd practice, they weren't the only to do it, Cavendish CAV 10, I believe, is a triple sided double LP!

It is indeed with a blank D side.

Interesting! But I was thinking more of 12" 33rpm sides which had more than nothing on :D

i can see some splurging on many US libraries. Capitol in particular.

have seen some Capitol Hi-Q series with less than five minutes. also some of the Media Music are crazy short.

just have a look here:

That's quite something, less than 12 minutes for the two sides!

You weren't kidding... Release No. 5, No. 5 has three cues totalling 6 min. 30. sec on the A-side.

I thought the Cinemusic album I uploaded recently where both sides came to 16 minutes was a short one until I discovered Capitol Media Music Release Number 1, No. 10 'Solo Instruments - Fanfares' - doing some basic maths, side 2 is about 3 minutes 15 seconds in total!

Agree about some of the US releases. I have a Custom Audio Trax here with 6:33 on side A and 4:30(!) on side B. My local shop had quite a lot of these and others such as Showcase Production Music but I baulked at paying for so little music. Just picked up a few.

I found this in my collection - does it count as library? 49 seconds on side A and 47 seconds on side B. What's strange is that, after each track, the needle sticks and doesn't move on to the next one. I suppose it made it easier to use in a live situation i.e. no chance of playing the next track by mistake.
