Title: Vinyl Ripping ?
Post by: DylanDylan on August 17, 2018, 03:23:11 AM
tried my hand at noise reduction in audacity and have spent countless hours and, my rips still sit on a campfire [...]
any advice would be appreciated.  alternatives to audacity?

Do you wash the records? I've done over a thousand rips and have never had a crackly one. I think most of the noise comes from dirt, unless the vinyl is really, really scratched up.

This is what I use to clean the records: h++ps://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HF8WALM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Thanks for the tip a8detective. I think I should get something like this as well. Never really investigated and I had no idea they are so affordable and compact.

It can also depend on your turntable and needle.

78s are hard enough let alone to account for if it was recorded with standard groove or microgroove.

Yeah, I'll second what a8 said. Working to clean up the actual vinyl before ripping tends to improve the sound more than any digital post-production/editing can.

thanks! a8. I've just purchased some.

I'm also on an older needle so ordered a replacement as well.

Thank you all
