Title: Unreleased Soundtracks
Post by: Digga on August 01, 2023, 03:12:56 PM
Hi Everyone ! Fan of soundtracks and library music and influenced by the work of the late Blog Fraykers Revenge, I present to you my first unreleased soundtrack "Seven" from 1979. All the songs are from KPM Music. I created fake front and back cover to "bring life" to this soundtrack (I tried to import the covers image directly into the topic but I failed lol). I hope you enjoy this soundtrack.

I love these projects and there's some great tracks in there from the golden age of KPM.   Thanks
What software did you use to 'age' the LP cover?

Thank you very much Retronic I'm glad you like it, I take the original movie poster and then I work with Photoshop mainly. I have other Unreleased Soundtracks in progress that I will post soon.

Great- give us a shout of you want help ID'ing any tracks or you want any files.  I made a few comps like this- Rabid, Deadly Weapons, Scream For Vengeance, etc from library tracks myself a few years ago.   Frayker aged the Rabid cover for me back then actually.

That's really cool! I had Deadly Weapons in my notes :) we need more comps like this definitely.

I love stuff like this! Great movie to do too. I've been working on my own for Kentucky Fried Movie.

Cool!

I love that artwork. Fraykers influence is so clear.

Unfortunately I'm crap with Photoshop (actually, I don't even have it installed).
I'm on Mac and I use Gimp sometimes (absolutely non-skilled amateur level).
Do you think a similar job can be done with Gimp too?

Great job Digga. Thanks for sharing.

You just need a LP cover / and "blanc damage" images and layer them on top, then blend them over accordingly.
Sounds a bit complicated, but it makes sense if you know what that actually means.

For example:
I use the DeWolfe cover of "Working It Out". I have also selected my "damage" that I want to "inflict" over the clean image.

Normally, a new layer will always obstruct the one below. A layer is, just like in real life, an image or object. If you put your keychain on a letter, the keychain will be on top. (Duh :D) But now we want to blend it over. There are many ways for a graphic program such as Photoshop, GIMP or, like I use for 15 years, "PhotoFiltre", they are called almost the same. By doing so, it will not overlay/cover, but merge with the underlying image(s).

Does not look very convincing yet, but now you can play with various parameters, filters, and different layers. For example, setting the "damage" layer only to a 30% opacity makes it more plausible. Maybe adding crispness to both images, simulate older print quality by changing colour values, play with contrast, add "edge filters" to create a bit of a sloppy printing quality/bad printing press et cetera. There are endless possibilities to play with. Also adding real-life logic to things make it also plausible in GFXing: If you have a picture and you drop ink on it, what happens? The ink is ON TOP of the image (the layer above) but mostly dried out (lower opacity, less colour saturation) and the ink will be sucked up by the underlaying cellulose (blending in).

Here I added more contrast to both the damage and the source image, added a lot of yellow colour imbalance to only the source image and added crispness to only the source image again, not the damages. I must admit I just pulled out random stuff, so this is why it looks so cheap and blurry :D It's a mere demonstration though. You can find many "damages" on Google. You can use any thing (e.g. "old paper"), but if you happen to have an old, white paper sleeve of your LP, take an upside-down picture of it so you have the outlines of the disk visible. Now "layer" it onto the usually clean and perfect CD inlay, either by using the blend modes or by "Alpha channeling" (read as: Removing) the white sleeve so only the outlines and paper wrinkles stay. It is actually that easy.

In this example I added a layer of "dust" to it, again cheeply within 30 seconds, but it's just a demo again:

I make guides for a video game in the style of "old, gilded paper" but of course, the video game itself is modern and colourful. I use many "old paper", "vintage book", "wrinkled paper" et cetera, often layering 10+ more of them carefully together. After a while, you will get the hang of it and it's actually pretty cool. Since all the programs kinda work the same but use different steps and menus, I can only stay superficial like this.

Thanks for this Digga. I love the artwork. But I am curious. All of the tracks in your compilation have been previously shared on this forum in FLAC format. I just wondered why you chose to go with mp3 on this occasion?

Thank you potzorbie ! Kentucky Fried Movie very good choice.

Thanks Greta i'm glad you like!
I don't know much about Gimp but I think it works too, it's just superimposition of texture and layer, i like when it's not too much aged but just enough :)

Thank you nidostar, I try to stick as much as possible with the style of the time. Yes for sure but I didn't have them all in .Flac and I found it weird to have mp3 and Flac mixed so I put everything in mp3.

Thank you stackjackson !!! more Unreleased Soundtracks coming soon.

Hi everyone ! Next unreleased soundtrack and one of my favorite movie genres the good old Blaxploitation « Hammer » from 1972, Music composed by Solomon Burke, supervision and orchestration by Jerry Styner. I extracted every songs straight from the movie so there is fx and voice interference but this soundtrack deserves to be shared (I also made a front and back cover :) ). There is some info on the very cool daaracarchive website but links are literally been dead for years so I made mine. I hope you enjoy this unreleased soundtrack friends !!!

New Unreleased Soundtrack, the legendary « Black Samurai » with Jim Kelly from 1977. 25 songs composed by top library music composers like Keith Mansfield, Alan Hawkshaw, Walter Murphy, Alan Parker, Syd Dale, Sammy Burdson … (As usual the front and back covers I made) I hope you enjoyed this unreleased soundtrack, This is one of my favorites!

One of my fave William Smith movies (the other being "Hollywood Man"). Everything was KPM in this? I never knew.....knew it was library, but never recognized anything from KPM all these years. This will be an interesting listen! Then I may have to pull out the movie and watch it again after....been some years.

Here's a list of movies I found made up of mostly library tracks:
A Girl's Best Friend
Maraschino Cherry
Pleasure Palace

I made these 3 probably a decade and a half ago (all lossless)...all complete except 1 tune in Marachino Cherry that was never ID'd. They would be on old home made CD-R's. If I had em handy i'd post em.

I agree potzorbie they are very hard to find in lossless and on vinyl I don't even talk about it, if someone has Major Records in Lossless I'm very interested !!!

Digga, are you looking for any Valentino in lossless or just specific ones? I used to own a few LP's which I archived in lossless before I sold em off and I also have some actual master tape sourced material as well. If you're looking for any, i'll hit the external drives and see what I have hangin around in lossless and post em.

I watched this again today.  Chock full of KPM and Bruton.  There’s a lot of unknown electronic tracks which aren’t as well produced.   One sounds a bit like Michael Colina/ Major.  I noted down the tracks I recognised so about halfway completed.

Here's one off your list in super HQ lossless at 32/48000 WAV. #6090. Ripped nearly a decade ago on Dec 9, 2014 right before shipping off the LP after selling it. Which I actually sold to forum member Zach at that time (wonder where he is these days?). Don't know why I ripped it so high...may have been an accident cause I was doing a lot of professional recording at that time and may have been set to that.

Hello everyone !!! New unreleased soundtrack, today not from a movie but from a cop/drama television series, Bluey, broadcast in Australia between 1976 and 1977. The theme of the series is composed by Brian Bennett with the song "New Horizons" from KPM 1137 "Great Expectations" and there are also good names like Stefano Torossi, Stringtronics, Johnny Pearson, Janko Nilovic... I hope you will like this unreleased soundtrack.

Hi everyone!!! New unreleased soundtrack, the 1979 thriller "Delirium" directed by Peter Maris. According to the credits, the original music are composed by David Williams but I have identified only 5/22 songs he composed (and I have doubts about one, track 21 called "Chase"), but the rest of the soundtrack is mostly library music. Beautiful theme and opening song which is Reticolato by Lesiman and you can find composers like Trevor Duncan, David Fanshawe, Clive Hicks… I extracted David Williams' music directly from the film (no dialogues on it) because I couldn't find any information about it and wanted to have the full soundtrack. I hope you enjoy this unreleased soundtrack

Banned in the UK as a 'Video Nasty' I still have my old VTC pre-cert video.   It was very disconcerting watching this when the theme from "Mastermind" came on!  Good choice.  I remember at the time in the 90's I was picking these old videos up and recognising the tracks having heard them in other things - with this 'Darkside' in particular was well used in Prisoner Cell Block H as was Hideout, Flashing Knives, etc It was when I was starting to understand that these were stock tracks and probably on LP as I could hear cracks and pops on Prisoner at times.  I used to dream of getting hold of them.
And here we all are...

same for me Retronic, I started to recognize certain music used in different films like Brian Bennett notably Prowler

While searching for Boosey & Hawkes on the forum to finish the unreleased soundtrack for Death Weekend from 1976 (aka The House by the Lake) I saw that you had almost all the tracks for Shivers by Cronenberg did you succeed in all the identify?
Also could you please share the Boosey & Hawkes SBH 3056? (also used in Prisoner ;) (link are dead) "All Strung Up" is used also in Death Weekend but I don't have them all

Someone else created this list but i had been finding Shivers tracks by chance that I recognised from other things (again, 'Prisoner').

01.) "Rooms in a Museum" by Eugene Cines (Boosey & Hawkes - SBH 3054)
02.) MISSING CUE 2 (ELECTRONIC)
03.) "Frequency A" by Naresh Sohal (Boosey & Hawkes - SBH 2977)
04.) "Hypertensions 21" by Alan Langford (Boosey & Hawkes - SBH 3056)
05.) 'Psychotic Transients (k) by Trevor Duncan
06.) "Weird Noises" by David de Lara (Studio G - LPSG 2008) + MISSING CUE 4 (ELECTRONIC)
07.) "Forms And Plans" by Dubravko Detoni (Studio G - LPSG 2009)
08.) "Assonance" by Dubravko Detoni (Studio G - LPSG 2009)
09.)  "Zero To Infinity" by Frank Talley (Boosey & Hawkes -SBH 3054).
10.) "All Strung Up 33" by Alan Langford (Boosey & Hawkes - SBH 3056)
11.) MISSING CUE 6 (ELECTRONIC-strident only)
12.) "Interim For Flute And Harp" by Eugene Cines (Boosey & Hawkes - SBH 3054)
13.) MISSING CUE 4 (ELECTRONIC) + "Frequency B" by Naresh Sohal (Boosey & Hawkes - SBH 2977)
14.) "Phonomorphia" by Dubravko Detoni (Studio g - LPSG 2009)
15.) "Insomnia" by Trevor Duncan (SBH 2986)

It would be good to have mp3s of the unknown ones.
Meanwhile here are the others- in various formats for audition purposes.  If we had a full set I can record them again in FLAC.

Fantastic artwork Digga! I really appreciate also the bigger resolution of them compared to the previous ones.
I love these unreleased soundtracks.

Here my little contribution.
Three upgrades to legit flac, more precisely:
11 - Armando Sciascia - Black Sand (Vedette Records)
15 - Roland Kovac New Set - Guru (Selected Sound)
16 - Roland Kovac New Set - Love That (Selected Sound)

Apart the two still unidentified tracks (sorry but i couldn't recognize them), the only lossy track now should be "19 - Roger Davy - Zombie" which I don't have.

I have the Boosey LPs and have never gone through to check in ang meaningful way but happy to record records if any not available on here. I do have a catalogue as well which details tracks by genre- Drama/ Electronic, etc which is I guess how music editors/ directors sought the right tracks often.

I think we should look more at Italian labels, before 1975 (date of the film) Boosey & Hawkes are more orchestral than electronic but who knows?

I always wanted to help more but never found time enough for a good digging on all these wonderful unreleased soundtracks.

If I'm not mistaken, track 16 "Trevor Duncan - Insomnia" was still in mp3 format in Retro's folder, here is a flac version:
swisstransfer.com/d/57eedb0a-0920-46dc-87e9-e9d984ceee14

I'm afraid I still haven't any clue about the missing ones "Rhythm" "Lead" and "Strident"
Title: Re: Unreleased Soundtracks
Post by: Digga on May 03, 2024, 01:04:03 PM
Thank you Greta !!!

at first I thought the electronic cues came from H. Tical - Impact Synthesized Sound And Music (aka Armando Sciascia) like "Modulations" at 1'45'' sounds like "Lead", "Rubidio" for "Rhythm"
Title: Re: Unreleased Soundtracks
Post by: Greta on May 03, 2024, 01:11:24 PM
Yeah, a good intuition, but unfortunately they're not.

I agree they could come from some Italian release, but to make the job even more complicated, unfortunately the Italian libraries are quite full of these electronic/experimental stuff...

Actually, I wouldn't rule out the French libraries.

Cronenberg used KPM, B&H and Studio G for the rest of it so I suspect the cues are there somewhere.  He used De Wolfe and Hudson too for Rabid, his next film.

Great job as usual Digga. Thanks!

Here are some upgrades form mp3 to flac and from fake-flac to flac.
At a first sight, the only fake flac remaining should be "Edward Michael - Terror" and I don't have a flac version of Conroy BMLP 014.

Upgraded tracks in the zip:
09 - Don Banks - Dramatic Overlays A
16 - Paul Lemel - Dramaturgy Part 2
17 - Don Banks - Dramatic Overlays J
