Title: Robert Hall Productions/New World - Full Albums
Post by: NatetheDoofy on November 09, 2023, 05:04:03 PM
Howdy!

I'm no expert on Production Libraries, but I've been meaning to join this forum because one library has followed me around for quite some time.

Robert Hall Productions/New World is such a mysterious label, but one I've been captivated by for several years. It's amazing how such a large, unique library has been lost to the winds of time. But I've acquired several albums over the past year, and I've wanted to release them out into the world, just so more material from this monumental Library can be publicly available. I thought it'd be appropriate to share these albums with you lovely folks!

I decided to leave my transfers raw without any editing to avoid over processing. If you ever wanted to toy with my existing rips, feel free!

This is perhaps the only place I've found helpful, detailed discussion on Robert hall Productions, so thank you everyone for your great research and thoroughness! I intend on tracking down and preserving more of these albums, so if you wanted to help out, had any comments or information, or know the whereabouts of other releases, let me know! Or you can send an email at roberthallarchive@gmail.com.

Thanks, and God bless!

Thank you for this share NatetheDoofy. An interesting selection from sound effects to jingles to some instrumental tracks by the look of it. I look forward to listening to them.

I was about to say that Robert Hall Productions was a new one on me but I see I have a copy of RH216/217 in my collection which I most likely acquired from this forum back in 2018.

Thanks, Nate! Especially, RH 230-31 & 288-89! And welcome to LMT!

Very cool on your YouTube posts how you get that arrow to point to the song that's playing :D

I edited your post, but best not to hotlink to archive.org.

Nate, you don't know how happy I am to see that somebody like you has dedicated themselves to tracking down and preserving the albums of this obscure label, and speaking as somebody who's been deeply fascinated by this obscure label for a while I can't thank you enough for your efforts. And I see you've used some of these in your animations - very nice to see their music library get some usage in this day and age, and equally nice animation to boot! Cheers!

I've been interested by this label myself for quite sometime, particularly their effects library, since I'm an amateur sound editor and enthusiast myself, and I download their albums whenever I come across 'em. There's some neat gems of sounds on these I haven't found on any other stock library of this vintage and it's always fun stumbling upon one of them whilst watching something, a fun "A-ha! I recognize that sound!" moment for me. Plus they're pretty weird in some regard, like how some of them accidentally have the slate intact, like a couple of the door sounds on one of the ones you've shared.

I even have a little Google Doc where I've noted observations and sightings of the effects on the ones I have seen ripped prior, and can happily share you my observations on their effects library whenever possible.

So to sum it up, very happy to see you taking it upon yourself to upload as many unavailable RH albums as possible, and here's to many more. Kudos!

Terribly sorry about those hotlinks! I'll keep that in mind from now on.

Thanks, mate! Robert Hall Productions has fascinated me for many of the same reasons; The library has such a bizarre flare to it that truly makes it stand out. Their music specifically entices me; it's all charming, experimental, and sometimes outstanding. The production value, as you've pointed out, seems less professional, but it really adds to the label's character.

I vividly recall listening to bits & bobs from RH 234-235 for the first time, and wondering, "what's the deal with this lovely music?". After barely finding much else from Robert Hall when browsing YouTube or Google that same day, I knew I had to uncover more eventually. Very honored to say that...I have found stuff!

I'd love to hear any observations you've got regarding their effects! I've recently been spotting certain Robert Hall effects in random places too, partly thanks to YouTube's wonderful content ID bots...but I digress.

I hope to archive more from this underappreciated library in the near future, and I'll be sure to share my rips! :)

No problem, mate! Bizarre is a perfect word for much of them, not just the sounds but the way they were packaged together. It's obvious these releases didn't always have the best care put into them, what with audio slates being left intact on occasion and unrelated sounds being just slapped together on one album (and one album even apparently has a sound effects person coaching a crowd what sounds to make, per somebody on the Steve Hoffman forums), but that's just part of the charm of their albums.

Oh, and psst - check your messages. ;)

I intend to keep this a continuous, open thread where this label and it's albums can continue to be shared, archived, and discussed. If any of you have any Robert Hall Productions/New World albums lying around, or have any insider knowledge regarding the label's history, feel free to share if you wish! As for me, I'll be sure to chime in whenever I make any new discoveries.

God bless!

Oh, it's a good day indeed seeing you upload more of these!

I'm especially digging the two production music albums the most, an interesting hodge-podge of styles. It's especially interesting how, although those two were likely released in the mid-70s, some of the tracks on there sound much older, especially on W-1/2. Really did not expect any of the music albums from them to be the same thrown-together albums of unrelated material that many of their FX albums are.

"Lift Off Almost" is my favorite of the bunch, though, with all those random sound effects included in the track (including a sequence of boings and zips which have long been favorites of mine, used by Hanna-Barbera and many other studios over the years). I definitely share your intrigue by it, and I have to wonder what such a track was meant for before winding up in this library.

The SFX albums are a delight as well. It's nice to finally hear one of my holy grail albums (54/55), and suffice to say, it didn't disappoint. Some fun cartoony noises on it, although I didn't recognize a ton of them besides a familiar boing at the end of the "Flutter Boings" track (originally from the Major 78 library).

Good stuff as always, Nate! You've delivered the goods once more. And thanks for acknowledging me for reccing you 54/55!

I've got a burning, somewhat silly question I've been meaning to throw at you folks. Ever since I started my initiative, I've found many Robert Hall Albums outside of the records in my personal collection; a huge thanks to the folks who've graciously helped me out! Would it be okay to upload these to my archive as well? I feel uneasy about uploading other people's rips on my own accounts and channel, but I also see no reason to keep these underrated oddities hidden; I'd love them to be out in the public. As avid collectors, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks again, and have a great day!

I actually wound up seeing these on the Google Drive folder a few days before you put them up on YT, but now's as good a time as ever to share my thoughts on this new batch!

It's a toss-up between 222/223 and 506/507 as my favorites here, the latter is a pretty eclectic mix of some neat sound effects (my favorites being the charmingly offbeat "Comic Machine Running" effects) in spite of how haphazardly put together it is, the fomer has a ton of wonderful big band "showtime"-type tracks along with a healthy dose of string-led pieces which have a very 50s feel that I've always loved. I once had a digital copy of a sampler record I found on eBay that had a few of the cuts from that album featured, so it feels like a nice reunion hearing them once more (also, love how some cheeky person named one of the cues after the label itself!).

303 is also a fun listen with its great 80s tracks, almost sounding like they came from a news program or corporate training video of the day. And while, as you said in your description, 86/87 isn't the most exciting of their effects albums, there's a few standout cuts to me like the reverby monster footsteps, and I'm glad it's been archived.

As always, thanks for sharing these audio delights, pal! I've been wanting to hear a couple of these for a while, and I'm glad they didn't disappoint whatsoever.

Hey, folks!

I've got an interesting album to share, one that was rather mysterious when I discovered it. This New World title was listed on Ebay several weeks back, but the seller didn't know what title it was because the catalogue numbers on the labels were inked out. I ordered the LP in hopes that I could figure out what the deal with it was. Luckily, like many Robert Hall albums, the catalogue numbers are etched into the runouts, so I was able to inspect the inscriptions; "World 3" & "World 4" respectively. I think it's safe to say that this record is W 3-4. This makes one of two Robert Hall albums I own that aren't listed on Discogs (the other being RH 80-81), and there's definitely dozens among dozens more albums we know nothing about. Ultimately, that's why I've been so passionate about hunting these albums down; so much of this unique, hard to find music/SFX simply isn't available anywhere, let alone archived online. I'm deeply thankful for the albums I've uncovered thus far, and I'm super excited about what's in store for me this year! I'll prepare another nice batch of albums to dump in the near future, but for now, here's some links to W 3-4 for your listening pleasure:

Howdy, folks!

I've come to a decision. So far, I've only uploaded/shared albums I've acquired myself, and I will continue hunting down more titles. But for the sake of my mission to locate and publicly release/archive as many Robert Hall albums as I can find, I've decided to start uploading albums outside of my collection, ones that've circulated the internet for quite a while. Of course, I don't claim ownership over ANY of these rips, and I intend to credit the original rippers behind the albums whenever possible; I don't want to discredit their efforts! At the end of the day, I just want as much from this library to be as easily accessible as possible. I've built a decent back catalogue of albums now from SoulSeek and fellow LMT members, so expect to see weekly uploads for a bit! I'll be sure to share any upcoming uploads in case they're new to you folks. :) If any of you happen to know specific rippers for any of these albums I share, definitely let me know! For now, Here's what I've got thus far; these were all ripped by a fellow named Ptrond from my knowledge.

It was all most of us had back in the day. ptrond [=pornotrond] was a very generous and prolific 'ripper' & sharer of library albums long ago. Had his own site, and was also perpetually online at soulseek. Good fella. Those were the days...

They're the same old rips. For my video uploads, I just combine each individual track from an album into one file as a FLAC for use in editing/rendering, just so the audio is ultimately less effected by YouTube's auto compression. I'm probably a bit superstitious, but it's really something out of habit from dealing with my own personal rips.

Howdy do, Folks!

I've got a couple albums here that I believe have been shared here already, but worth sharing again for the sake of this thread. The first is one of many Robert Hall audition records which apmnut shared a couple months back, with particularly interesting contents on Side 2. It seems to have been ripped by a fellow named soniclab, a name I discovered looking through the metadata. The next three are among the earliest (and strangest) Robert Hall Sound Effects albums. A majority of those early titles (think RH 10s, 20s, and 30s) aren't documented, so It's great we at least have these for now. I couldn't find the original ripper of those albums, so if anyone here happens to know, drop a line! Also, I've recently decided to go back and do second passes on some my own Robert Hall LPs, since a select few could sound a lot better. I tried "wet playing" on my John Danser album, and it sounds so much better sonically! I've already updated the Robert Hall Archive Drive folder with the redux transfers I've done thus far, so for those curious, I've updated RH 222-223, W 1-2, W 250-251, and W 288-289, and will slowly start reuploading them to my channel.
