Bruton Music—or, to give it its full name, the Bruton Music Library—was founded in 1977 by Robin Phillips under the aegis of ATV boss Lord Lew Grade, and initially operated out of ATV’s offices in Bruton street in London. Before moving to Bruton, Philips was already a respected name in the field for his work at KPM Music, one of Britain’s longest-running and most respected sources of library music. He’d instituted revolutionary changes there, moving the company away from using 78 rpm records to the sturdier 33 rpm LPs, and was well-known for fostering the talents of his protégés, many of whom he took with him to Bruton. The Bruton record covers were made instantly recognisable by featuring variations on the same grid design as well as the company’s winningly gauche isometric logo. The label was bought in 1982 by Michael Jackson before being sold on to the Zomba Group three years later.


This collection is gonna be all over the place.  The studios haven't done a very good job reissuing the Bruton catalog.  There is the Bruton Vaults series, which is a small handful of the most popular albums that have been digitized, to varying degrees of quality.  Any of these I have, I have also uploaded the Vinyl rip versions because the quality on some tracks of the digital versions seem a little overcompressed to my ear.  Then there is the Bruton Vault Archives series, which is a 15 piece compilation series.  Some nice selections and very enjoyable listens, but it only serves to muddy the waters for us completists out there.  Oh, and the fact that the same catalog numbers were reused in the CD age also makes things just a tad unruly.

I've collected quite a cache of different rips of varying sources and qualities, as well as downloading a huge pile of digital versions from APM of later releases.  I haven't been nearly as thorough or obsessed with being complete as I was with the KPM catalog, so there's still room for growth here.  There's most of the old classics here, many of the rips are probably the same ones you have.  There are also continuations of the various BRx series that soldiered on after the CD age took over.  There's a smattering of modern day releases here also, some synthwave and breakbeat electronica, for those who aren't stuck in the past.

As before, if there isn't a (FLAC) at the end, it means it isn't tagged.  When it begins to feel like a job tagging albums, that's when I call it a day.  I never got back to the tedium, so take them as they are.

AFAIK they are real FLACs.  About half of these I downloaded from apmmusic.com, a library licensing distributor.  The other half are from soulseek and I have tested many of them.

Well, here we have the faults of the Bruton Vaults project on full display.  The album is 11 tracks long, with Perpetual Motion and The Achievements of Man both having an alternate tail end track that, on the original release, immediately followed the full track version.  In the Bruton Vaults version, they tacked them at the end.  I tagged the album according to the discogs entry, and both having 11 tracks, I stupidly tagged them correctly instead of noticing that universal rearranged the track order for their remaster.

I fixed the issue.  The tracks are still in the CORRECT order, with the tail end tracks at track positions 4 and 6, but at least the names are assigned to the correct files this time.

OK, here's what I'm gonna do here.  There are 256 dead links in this thread.  It is turning out to be a ridiculous task trying to determine which links they are, matching the broken links to the actual albums.  So, please, if you want a certain album and it is dead, post a comment with a list of the ones you're after and I will reupload those and rebuild the list as we go.  It's no problem for me to upload a big bunch at a time, it's realizing which ones I need to do that is the problem.  So speak up if you need assistance. 8]

First, I wanted to say thanks.  I've been going through the main libraries I'm familiar with to scour them for specific tracks I've heard over the years and cannot find.  I do appreciate your ongoing efforts.  In my attempt for this library, these albums were no longer available.  Could they be reuploaded when you have time please?

Please forgive me if I am making a stupid comment, I only joined today (Sat) I have tried quite a few of the links in this thread but every single one has come up as 'file no longer exists' does that mean I have 'missed the boat' so to speak or if I keep looking in will they ever get listed again? again sorry if I am speaking out of turn, but if I don't ask I won't know. :)

With Zippyshare, it seems they only stay up a certain amount of time and then get taken down automatically.

Perhaps it depends on the uploader because on another blog I have found zippy links from 2013 still active. I wondered if someone comes here and reports links to expire them? :)

I have a free Zippy account, and as far as I know, links stay up for a maximum of 30 days without activity. But whenever somebody makes a download, the 30 days period starts again. So, virtually, to keep a link active, one download a month is enough.

Folks I am very sorry to have made a few remarks about dead links in this thread when all the time it was me doing it wrong! I have tried a few more today and they are working whereas I mostly got the 'file expired message'. I can now see why they came up expired and Basically I am an idiot. In my mind - I thought that BRG 21 was in BlackwatchPlaid's Bruton lossless megathread and, that therefore somebody might have had a FLAC. But I was wrong.
I actually have the LP in mint condition (at least visually), but it needs to be cleaned & checked first. I've also ran out of cleaning fluid for my spin cleaner. I'd be happy to rip it and share it for you guys, if you want to give me the honour. :) But it's going to have to be on a later date, unfortunately...

A lot on here will have that range. If you are asking for links to every album, that’s not going to happen as there was over 200+ vinyl releases during this period.

If you are missing a few albums; then ask away and myself and others will be happy to help.  If you are looking to get lots of albums, I would suggest using Soulseek to source the albums. In the meantime, ensure you have a good look around the forum as many links are still live.

Upvote +1000 -- a fantastic tool to source those items you will never find in a store or online collector sites. There are a couple members who have amazing collections that helped fill the holes in mine, without wrestling with the (inevitable) hassle of expired links that plague these forums.

My one piece of advice if you head down that road: look at alternate clients, as the main client app is old and (in my experience) not always stable. Other, newer client apps are much better!
