Summer pop-up share #3
« on: June 15, 2023, 10:06:44 AM »
I'm changing the approach to the series slightly.

Uploads are now anonymous. This serves two main purposes:

(1) to discourage stamp collecting, and
(2) to give you the opportunity to experience music as it should be experienced -- not sicklied o'er with the pale cast of catalogue numbers, artist renown, ratings, rarity, market prices, what others say about it, and so on. The only remaining info is the year of publication/recording, and track numbers indicating side A and side B.

In short: you're on your own.

Interested listeners may rest assured that recordings are and will continue to be of high acoustic quality. That they're not to be found on every street corner. And that it's very good music, of course.**

Whoever first names the record gets a special prize!

Just kidding. But when it actually happens I'll come up with something. :]

That said, here's number three:

>> [expired]

Archive is encrypted. But you know where I live.

PS I do not know how reverse music searches perform with this stuff. I've never used them. But try not to be a kill-joy too quickly. Especially not to yourself.

PPS All recordings are going to be from phonographic records -- to the extent I can be certain of that -- if I don't state otherwise. I have converted recordings with a higher bit depth or sampling rate to red-book format for this, er, little game.

PPPS All credits go to the artists and the original sharers of their documentations of these remarkable works of art. I only serve as a medium to acquaint you with them. If you so wish.

_____

** What is and isn't good music is not a matter of personal taste, just as good food is not a matter of personal taste.

I don't get the need to be secretive. I'd prefer to just have the Artist and Title names for archiving.

Listening to the music and not caring about anything else is just the point.

Yes I get that but I like it and now I'll never know who it's by and what the name of the album is. Kind of defeats the purpose of discovering new music if it's all anonymous.

But what if one does not share your enthusiasm for a particular choice in music? Your point about "What is and isn't good music is not a matter of personal taste, just as good food is not a matter of personal taste" is, after all, flawed since somebody at some point has to make the call that your share constitutes good music. You have made that call and it was down to your personal taste, surely? The fact that someone may not agree with your choice doesn't make you right and them wrong or vice-versa.

@potzorbie simply pop the tracks through Shazam and it'll tell you artist and title. I say no more! :)

Nice music. Reminds me of Embryo's Africa album, which I highly recommend.

But, you'd far better serve the artists on this record by giving explanation of the music's background and relevance, personal to you or otherwise. That's how we make a positive difference here; against all the stuff we deem "not so special," we pay tribute to what we enjoy. All this obfuscation and sanctimoniousness about taste is useless.

... Well, imagine my surprise learning this record came out on the German Trikont label, who published Embryo and related acts for so many years. (Not so) small world!

The frustrating-the-stamp-collectors thing seems to be going rather well!

Ah, well why didn’t you say that was the whole intention - to annoy your fellow library members.

I've made the intention of it fairly plain, see initial post. How you perceive and interpret this depends on your attitude and mode of thinking.

It's a game. Relax.

PS If I remember correctly you recently said that, for you, "it's all about the music". Here is the chance to prove it to yourself.

(No, I didn't do this because of your statement. I've just noticed the connection.)
