[Studio One] S.O.9 (UK) The Joe & Harry Orchestra
« on: May 15, 2023, 03:23:41 PM »
Hi folks,
It's about time that I also share some of my collection. I don't have many library lps but I might be able to submit some that are not that easy to find online.

Here is one that I enjoy. I need to say that I still struggle trying to work with wav files, so the link is for the full wav and there is also mp3 for the loose tracks.

What year is the album recorded?

Sadly it's not written anywhere on the sleeve or the record. I see some close references are marked between 1970 and 1973 on discogs if that helps.

Hi funktionalbeat, cheers for an excellent recording!

... I still struggle trying to work with wav files ...

Until a couple of days ago I didn't know how to split a recording into tracks either. But with Audacity it's very easy.

Just open the single WAV file in Audacity and follow the instructions.

Steps 1 (Remove unwanted audio) and 3 (Maximise volume) can be skipped. A proper rip should already, approximately, be at maximum volume (-1 dB) -- clipping, of course, needs to be avoided. If you play back from the computer, use Replay Gain for normalisation.

As you recorded in 32-bit floating point format, the tracks can be exported as 16- or 24-bit PCM. Don't use 32 bits: FLAC, for example, only encodes up to 24 bits.

Converting the exported PCM tracks to a compressed audio format (FLAC, ALAC, APE ...) will save a lot of bandwidth for everyone if you share them. On Windows, foobar2000 or FLAC Frontend do the job nicely.

And now for the lazies ...

>> (drain) /u/ySAE4Pxk (24-bit, 48 kHz split)

No changes have been made to the audio.

Thank you very much for the tutorial. I'm recording an amazing CAM lp for the forum, I will try out the instructions as soon as I'm done!
