SIGNAL 30
« on: October 26, 2023, 10:12:55 AM »
Can anyone identify the music for the written prologue to the highway safety film "Signal 30"?

It was used as the "Coming Attractions" music for "Chiller Theatre" in NYC back in the 1960s, and I still find it scary as Hell!

All the music I recognise in this film comes from Chappell - I don't know if that helps much, but it might narrow it down a bit

Thanks for the replies. Chappell is a jumble to search through, but I gave it a try and came up empty. For the record, I've heard this theme in 2 other places: in a SPUNKY AND TADPOLE episode (not one that's been released on video); and in Bill Burrud's SAFARI TO ADVENTURE series (circa 1971, and not available anywhere).

WOW. Cannot thank you enough! Can't believe it's Farnon- it's certainly not like anything else I've heard by him (but then, that music isn't quite like ANYTHING else).  My guess would've been Wilfred Josephs, whose "Six Bizarre Episodes" contains the original "Chiller Theatre" theme, "Horror Upon Horror," but that was a dead end (so to speak).  Neither this piece nor the LP seem to be anywhere online, though, confusingly, there's ANOTHER Farnon piece with the exact same title "The Terror Strikes"- but a completely different piece of music! Anyway, thanks again and I hope there are other people out there with an an interest in the topic of library themes from NYC local TV of the 1960s!

That would be incredible! EBay has the album listed for sale, but the shipping cost from the UK is a bit extravagant...

Thanks again. This site has some original audio from "Chiller Theatre, " taped from the TV and with faux visuals added: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWtht7XjvFE  "The Terror Strikes" is AWOL, but "Final Agony" turns out to be the long-lost "C.T." bumper music! I hope someone else out there is interested in this stuff!
