Capitol Transcriptions (Q-series)
« on: January 06, 2019, 01:33:12 AM »

US label under Capitol Records, referred to by our very own Mr. as the "lo-Q" series on another incarnation of this board. No composers are credited, nor are orchestras, unsurprisingly. This actually pre-dates the Hi-Q library, and consisted of tracks licensed from Dave Chudnow's Mutel library. Incidentally, Serge Dupre and Georges Tzipine, who recorded music for Capitol Transcriptions, also composed cues for Mutel. Additionally, there are other series from Capitol Transcriptions, featuring artists like Duke Ellington, Jan Garber, Skitch Henderson, even Dennis Farnon under various cat. numbers (B-1/2, D-1/2, etc.).

There are also a large number of 16" LPs under Capitol Transcriptions not featuring library cues, but recordings of various orchestras and performers including Duke Ellington, Eddie La Mar, Jan Garber, Stan Kenton and other contemporary artists, issued under various other cat. no. letters (A-1/A-2, G-1/G-2, etc.). These were however intended for regular radio transcription usage, not as library cues.

Some additions:
The 'Capitol Transcriptions' label was under Capitol Records, Inc., Broadcast Division. None of the records listed any performers or composers, and unlike the later Hi-"Q" Series, not a whole lot of other info either.
The 78 RPM, 12" Lo-"Q" records run to at least Q-161/Q-162.

Additionally, the X-series (list below) featured other related stuff like themes, sound effects and programme aids.

Mr, my sincere, genuine thanks for the updated discography. Obviously yours is more researched, and frankly, mine wasn't, with only one entry from Discogs and one from memory. I envy and respect that.

Additionally, out of curiosity: even though I doubt that there any out there, do you happen to have any rips of these "lo-Q" albums? Really interested in hearing at least one.
