On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me....

Released as a 10" and later as an LP 'Mini-Skirt' was used in Russ Meyer's Vixen (1968) just before Erica Gavin's classic 'fish dance':

I like to think that they searched the catalogue for 'stripper' tunes and happened upon this record for 'Striptease' but decided 'Detroit' fitted better.  I actually like to think they made a mistake and put the wrong side of the record on but I may be stretching my imagination somewhat...

Russ Meyer used library music alot in his earlier fims.  This Robert Hall LP is William Loose cues; likely written for Meyer and then released as a library release???  It is chock full of cues for 'Vixen' and 'Cherry, Harry and Raquel (1970).

This leads me into the commercial releases of these same tracks plus some extras.  Both films had an LP release and in the 90's CD releases with extra tracks.  Here are the CDs:

'C,H & R' uses a KPM track in it's intro, Johnny Pearson's 'Pop March'.  Here's BWP's upload of KPM 1037 - Flamboyant Themes, Vol. 1' from the KPM megathread post:

In 1970, Meyer made one of two big studio films for Fox, 'Beyond the Valley of the Dolls'.  This too used 'Pop March' and I think another library track (I can't remember).
As a bonus here's Stu Phillips' score for BVOD, including many incidentals (the original LP was just the songs).

Hello Retronic, I'm sorry about your mom.

Thank you very much for opening this Christmassy thread. Your record choiches are always brilliant as well as your notes.
The Drive-Ins/Comes are such pleasant albums, they are perfect for this time.
Thank you for the upgrade of Mini-skirts and the wonderful Robert Hall LP by William Loose which I was missing. I love Meyer's earlier films.
Cheers.

Thank you, House, for adding Comes-Pop-Music Vol.5. Much appreciated.

More fabulous upgrades, De Wolfe, Robert Hall! Thanks again, Retro.

"Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" is one of my favorite movies of this period. I had the good fortune of seeing Roger Ebert introduce and discuss the film at a film festival back in the early 90s. What a hoot!
There was a time when the BVOD soundtrack was *impossible* to find, before the reissues. It was one of my all-time rarest 'holy grails" back in my vinyl buying days.

Yes it was. I was with my mate Paul in a record shop and spotted it before he did so grabbed it. £25 even then in the early 90’s. I love the Carrie Nations!

I have some more RM incidentals coming probably later in the month.

That Russ Meyer extravaganza is extraordinary Chap!
I've not seen one (unless it played in the after-feature movie at the drive in theatre when I was a lad)
That clip was titillating.

Thanks for the present Retro!

Your Pal,

Doug

Thanks for the De Wolfe and Robert Hall rips, I'll give them a good home.

As for the Russ Meyer soundtracks, I've never seen one of his films. I first heard of Russ Meyer because his name was mentioned in a Seinfeld episode  :)

Thanks for broadening my Bill Loose horizons, and Happy Festivus, everybody!
