Title: [Peer International] - PIL 9038 - Wolfgang Schlüter Combo - Hangover (1977)
Post by: Greta on April 24, 2024, 02:45:35 PM
Hello gang,

after a John Fred's request about this record I started digging for a flac copy and I've been lucky.
I didn't expect to find it on slsk, but I did indeed (thanks to user "zappa in malcolm x").

Anyways, the flac files were 16-96.
I left all the tags as they were and just downgraded the flacs to 16-48.

Enjoy.

*A notice for the fellow members*

The file I posted is apparently a fake lossless.
I missed it cause I was busy in many things at that moment..
Sorry for the illusion!

Yes, that is a rip from the "Different Perspectives In My Room" blog, where the owner would deceptively upsample music. Anything from that blog pre-2021 or so should be avoided!

Yes, sadly upsampled FLACs - so fake. Though your share did include sleeve and record scans which I'd not got with my lossy versions. So thanks for those Greta.

Yep, I always go in search of good cover pics and I found those yesterday.
A little consolation...lol!

I think I may have come across this fake lossless album before.  I'm not entirely sure.  Getting through so much stuff, it's hard to remember everything.

Oh well.  I'm sure it's, 'out there', somewhere.  Thanks for the thought.   ;)

We're dealing with a “real” forger (who, by the way, isn't that good).
the images speak for themselves... They come from discog and have been photoshopped
as evidenced by the sharp typography and blurred logo on the back cover
Not to mention the same lighting reflections and shadows...

The same goes for this so-called flac, which is none other than the mp3 320 that most of us already own!

Anyway what I'm saying isn't against people who honestly share their best,
but against those who make us believe in quality that isn't!

How can we trust people when this kind of manipulation becomes recurrent?

Yeah, it's quite like surviving in a jungle full of dangers...

The covers aren't that good too, I know, but they were the "less worse" I could find.

At the end of the day I'm gonna remove this whole topic, considering its uselessness.

Bummer. I was so thrilled to have just snagged another precious Peer release.

Oh, well. It was a nice dream while it lasted.

Thank you, Greta, for not only posting it with the best of intentions, but also for the FAKE FLAC warning. We've all been taken in at one point or another.  Myself, I get fooled on the regular.

If anyone sees the LP for sale I’ll buy it and share with you all. Last time I saw it it was £180 though!!! Ridiculous.

Thank you MD.
And thanks Retro for the offer. If I see it around I'll let you know immediately.

ps - I'll leave this topic up as a reminder

Hey Greta - How are you determining that the FLACs are upsampled from mp3? Just curious.

I have a FLAC version of this album which I believe was shared by someone here on this group at some point within the last year.

Usually a tell tale sign that an upsampling from mp3 has occured is that there's a sharp cutoff at 15-16khz. Anyways, the FLACs I have are not rolled off so likely a fully lossless version. Unless there's something else I'm missing....

Hi Scotch,
I've been told by few persons this is not a real flac.
It's not me, I fall in the trap many times with these "not-so-evident" fakes.

Apparently, a mp3 version which is identical to the flac I shared was circulating, and they're the same rip.

Maybe someone can assist on this matter?
