Title: Farfalla Records
Post by: Ditrysia on February 07, 2018, 09:01:25 PM
Hello folks,

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Catchy LP we are proud to have collaborate with Yan Tregger to reissue one of his classic record from the seventies.
This reissue contains 1 bonus track from the 1974 movie "L'Amour à la bouche" (aka Mannequin) directed by Gérard Kikoïne.

We are offering 3 copies, go to our Facebook page https://fb.me/FarfallaRecords

(https://i.imgur.com/JjJtY9d.jpg) YAN TREGGER

Yan Tregger was born in Algeria from a french family with italian origin.

Around his 15/16 he learned piano and trumpet in an autodidact way.

Yan Tregger began his carrer around 1967/68, first as a singer.
He soon became known by composing the "Shadoks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Les_Shadoks)" theme (french animated television series created by cartoonist Jacques Rouxel).
His first record destined for Library music was "Freezing Point (https://www.discogs.com/release/2736139)" under Marignan label.
Between the 70's and the 80's he had released about thirty projects under different aliases.

In France, he was one of the first to experiment disco with his band Major Symphony (https://www.discogs.com/artist/702161).
His biggest hit was his "Chase (https://www.discogs.com/master/216864)" record under the name M.B.T. Soul (https://www.discogs.com/artist/427229), which will be sold about 100 000 copies, but unfortunately his producer ran away with the money.

During his carreer Yan Tregger has written more than 2000 tracks registred at the SACEM, including more than 1000 released by glorious label such as Barclay, Vogue, CBS...

Not many people know that he is the nephew of italian actor Erno Crisa (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0187927/).

Little fun fact: He designed the "Magnum (https://www.discogs.com/release/1028271)" album cover.

Hello Ditrysia, thank you for posting.
Great reissue, Tregger has always been one of my favorites in the library world.
I went crazy trying to find a copy of "Freezing Point" or "Catchy" or "Rhythm And Gimmick" time ago.
A few still to discover too..
Great!

This looks (and sounds) great!
Thanks especially for the little fun facts - the colourful photo collage style is very similar on "Pictures", do you know if he did that sleeve too?

awesome, love that record. was super excited to see that the theme from "L'Amour à la bouche" was gonna be included, but unfortunately it's not the version that was actually used in the film, which is far superior.

dang, i can't seem to find my files of 'Rhythm And Gimmick' anymore.

Thank you  :D

@Greta At that time it was very small pressings, a lot of those finished in the trash and the others have been resold at the flea markets for peanuts

@Mr I don't think that was him

@Zach Do you mean this version?

Wow. Is that a comp about Jacky Jordano on Timing? Such a great choice, he's one of the most funky cats out there.

Thanks  :)

Just added the release on Discogs: https://www.discogs.com/release/12777985

Jacky Giordano is one of my favorite french composers.
I didn't find much information on him, all I know is that he was born in 1945 and died on December 2012.
Sadly, his brother Henri (Troc (https://www.discogs.com/artist/1290498-Troc)) passed away last August. He also worked for the Pierre Arvay's label, he composed the Timing n° 13 "Brazil" (https://www.discogs.com/release/3585687).

Hi Ditrysia, thanks for the information. Sad to hear of Giordano's passing. He'll live on through his awesome music forever though. Hope your excellent comp. presages the reissue of more of his back catalogue.

This looks great! I look forward to hearing it!

According to interviews with Bernard Fèvre, Giordano served as producer with L'Illustration Musicale. One could/should take this with a pinch of salt, of course, but some sources claim that the co-writing credit for the "Black Devil" LP was only added to recoup an investment in the project - though it seems more likely he served as lyricist. He seems to have been something of a sketchy character, particularly in his later years, and he is widely reported as having been arrested for fraud in 2007, one newspaper article mentioning him as a "repeat offender".
He was undoubtedly a brilliant composer, keyboardist and producer, though!

I don't know anything more about her, unfortunately, but in addition to Henri Giordano, Anne-Marie Olivier, who has a writing credit on Musax 100.007, seems to be related to the Giordano brothers, later taking the name Anne-Marie Giordano. A spouse, perhaps?

so great to see a compilation bringing Giordano's best Timing stuff together one one piece of plastic! makes listening to them so easy and convenient...

by the way, thanks for all those details about monsieur Giordano. so little information known but still, this is the best summary i know of.

Interesting Mr. What's the record credited as AM Giordano?

Musax 100.007 "Percussions" lists two cues by 'A. M. Olivier' - contemporary copyright paperwork reveals she now goes under the name Anne-Marie Giordano. I don't think she was credited on any LPs under this name, though.

Yes probably a spouse. There are 153 works credited to her on the Sacem database (including one with Jacky as arranger).

What you were talking above comes from the Noisey interview. Bernard Fèvre said:
Quote
he told me "I produce your records, but I co-sign everything you do".
Quote
...Jacky Giordano never worked on it, he just made the lyrics of "Black Devil Disco Club".

for the french readers: https://noisey.vice.com/fr/article/ryvmex/bernard-fevre-black-devil-disco-interview-2015

Jacky was also probably behind the Musax label (according to the Discogs profil page).

Very cool idea to do a comp about Musax. Very curious about the future volumes you will do.
