Title: Site issues, September 2022
Post by: Mr on September 13, 2022, 09:48:07 PM
Heya everyone!
Some bad news today;
a few days ago we experienced an issue with our main database and as a result a lot of content; posts, PMs, etc. has unfortunately been lost.

We are very sorry about the inconvenience.

Thanks for the work.  We can build it back up again! No worries.

Aw, this blows. How did this happen exactly?  :(

For now, let's just say the database got corrupted, along with all our recent backups. We had to re-start with the April 2020 database!

It's not ideal, of course, but at least we're still rolling... Viva la LMT!

Maybe all is not lost. Check out Internet Archive.

Oh yeah, I did those waybacks! Unfortunately, it's just the main page, I think. Better than nothing though.  :(

Bummer. Are the search indexes still being built? I looked at my Mega files (which are all still there), and none of the posts containing them that I checked (from 2021) come up when I search for the titles…

I did a fairly long stretch of classic library organ albums in 2021. Can't find the corresponding thread now. I'll re-post links, if that's helpful…

Damn, it sucks that so much data and shares have been lost, but on the bright side at least the forum is still here.

I'll very soon get the Spider-Man and Beavis threads back up to speed, as well as dig up the Google Drive links for my shares archive.

I know an old proverb, widely used in South America, which translated is more or less this:

"Every cloud has a silver lining"  (No hay mal que por bien no venga)

Just to be a little optimistic.

It's a drag, I might have ben a little annoyed if there weren't backups, but it's not that there weren't backups, it's that the backups were damaged.... perhaps it could be said that there should have been backups of the backups, but where would that end? If the backups of the backups failed would we say that there should have been backups of the backups of the backups?  ;D

We've started from scratch before plenty of times, at least it's not quite that this time, and thank goodness there seems to be no drama involved this time, I'm sure I'm not the only one that's getting a bit old for all that!

The way I look at it is that most requests were dealt with. New rips were acquired by those that wanted them so in essence, case closed.  Anyone that missed out in that two year period of course can request a anything and new rips will continue as usual. I know there are other sections of the forum that have lost useful info but sure it won’t take long to catch up.  I’m sure we are all thankful the forum still exists, and big thanks to those keeping it running.

I've put in a request with wiki.archiveteam.org/ and told them about the situation.

The site as it is right now is being archived, which will then be uploaded to the Wayback Machine. I know you have the 2020 backups still, but it'll be good to have another measure of having things archived. Hopefully, we don't have something like this happen again. Cheers.

The site as it was September 19, 2022 is now archived. You can download the WARC for it here:
hxxps://archive.fart.website/archivebot/viewer/job/gciwt (yeah, the url is weird, but it's legit)

The WARC will soon be uploaded to Wayback Machine, which means it'll be viewable with all forum content! I was able to find a WARC for the original libraymusic.boards.net. It appears to be the entire site from March 25, 2015. All the forum links appear to load. You can find it on Wayback too:

hxxps://archive.fart.website/archivebot/viewer/job/ctrp3
hxxps://web.archive.org/web/20150325094155/http://librarymusic.boards.net/

Did you guys know about this version of the site being archived? I see a lot of old users on it that are still here!

Gosh, that version from 2015 brings back a lot of memories....users, avatars...nice travel back in time!

Btw, I don't have an idea of what a WARC is, but if in a short time our v 7 version in its completeness will be viewable through Wayback Machine, that's good!

Cheers.

There are also assorted topic pages from the pre-crash LMT v.7 on Wayback Machine; just search for all results in this domain, and filter by "topic". It probably isn't everything, but there is a lot there, going up to early September 2022. Look for ones where the "To" column is earlier than September 14, 2022, there's almost 3000 pages. (Unfortunately, a couple disappeared since yesterday, no idea why. I remember a couple topics in the 93xx range were there before and now they're not...)

How does one "filter by topic"?

How does one "filter by topic"?

OK, search for "https://librarymusicthemes.com/*" and then on the next page, there's a text box that says something about filtering by, it's long and it's on the right side above the list of pages. Type in "topic" and it'll show everything that's a message page. Click on "To" until the top result is in February 2022 and you'll go through the latest date they have that page from. Anything before September 14 is probably something that doesn't exist after the crash/rebuild.

You should end up with this:

Thanks! I get the list of links as your image shows, but clicking any of them just goes back to the calendar grid. I don't seem to be able to reveal any content from the archive at all. Maybe I misunderstood the purpose here…

That calendar grid is how you access the archived versions from every date they've backed up. You have to click on one of the dates that has a blue circle on it, and then click on the date/time that pops up. Then you'll go to that snapshot of that particular page.

Thanks- I guess I just have to look at more of the links, because for the ones I checked, the calendar grids were basically empty.

Look at the calendar grid closely, you should see at least one blue dot. Make a mental note of the From and To dates before you look, or open the link in a new tab and compare. The calendar grid usually has a bar graph at the top of available dates, too.

LMT as it was from Sep 18th, 19th and 20th, is now fully viewable and navigatable.

Admins, let me know when you'd like me to do another archive again. You have to do it through IRC chat, but I can do it on your behalf. Cheers.

I thought I was banned at first for some reason, but then I found out what really happened, which does suck. Turns out that part of the database wipe included the entirety of my old account so it's like I was almost never here. On the bright side, even though my Aqua Teen music ID thread is gone I'm glad I started posting my findings to YouTube so they wouldn't be lost.

That also happened to me, However my username is still in the datebase but not my email or password,  So I had to start again.

I can't believe a major archive of music like this forum isn't backed up at least weekly. Latest one was from 2020...
Even my services are backed up daily  :-\

Just re-reading this. This could also be the culprit of being on such an outdated version of the board.

By chance were the backups and database that were in error still kept? There are still ways of recovering/pulling data from them and frankly there's some threads and posts that were lost that I'd really like to get back.
