Title: Help w/Identifying TV Game Show Music (UPD: 2019-Sep-28)
Post by: d_dgjdhh on February 21, 2019, 02:41:09 AM
Hi. I was wondering if anyone could identify music from certain shows. They may be stock music, and I'd like to find them one day to collect.

#01 -- [USA] TV Series -- Liars Club (1969)
FOUND by Craig-UK. What a wonderful track, after listening to it.

#02 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- Don Adams Screen Test (1975)
FOUND by apmnut. The ContentID was able to determine it from the OGM Music Library, but I wasn't able to find the music from their existing public database online (http://www.olegeorgmusic.com/audio/audiocatalog.html). Thanks for the information.

#03 -- [CAN] TV Series -- The Mad Dash (1979)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/03_CAN_TVseries_TheMadDash1979.mp3)

#04 -- [GBR] TV Series -- Sale Of The Century (1971)
FOUND by Lord Thames. Thanks for providing me your copy of the track. It's much appreciated.

#05 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- Split Personality (1959)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/05_USA_TVpilot_SplitPersonality1959.mp3)

#06 -- [USA] TV Series -- The $10,000 Pyramid (1973)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/06_USA_TVseries_The10kPyramid1973.mp3)

#07 -- [USA] TV Series -- The $1,000,000 Chance Of A Lifetime (1985)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/07_USA_TVseries_The1mChanceOfALifetime1985.mp3) Also used on Metro Sport's Aloha Bowl in 1982.

#08 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- Get Rich Quick (1977)
FOUND by me.

#09 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- The Riddlers (1977)
FOUND by Lord Thames, thank you.

#10 -- [USA] TV Series -- The Celebrity Game (1964)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/10_USA_TVseries_TheCelebrityGame1964.mp3) Was also used (supposedly) on the children's cartoon King Leo and Odie back in the 1960s.

#11 -- [USA] TV Series -- Stump The Stars (1962)
FOUND by apmnut. Thank you for the information. There's someone on Discogs.com who has the Impress disc catalog number IA-242 and says the song is the same as what's used on the TV show. The music was acquired. Thank you to Willem DeJong.

#12 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- Whodunnit? (1979)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/12_USA_TVpilot_Whodunnit1979.mp3)

#13 -- [USA] TV Series -- Who Said That? (1953)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/13_USA_TVseries_WhoSaidThat1953.mp3)

#14 -- [USA] TV Series -- Keep It In The Family (1957)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/14_USA_TVseries_KeepItInTheFamily1957.mp3) Now okay, this is likely not production music. But it is a cover tune from that Frank Sinatra song "Love & Marriage". The question is who performed this version.

#15 -- [USA] TV Series -- Can You Top This? (1970)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/15_USA_TVseries_CanYouTopThis1970.mp3) The tune sounds like from the stop-action children's show "Postman Pat". Unfortunately, I don't know what the title this tune was based off on to start my search.

#16 -- [USA] TV Series -- In The Bag (1958)
FOUND by Craig-UK. Thank you for the information.

#17 -- [USA] TV Series -- Home Run Derby (1960)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/17_USA_TVseries_HomeRunDerby1960.mp3)

Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/20_USA_TVseries_OneInAMillion1967.mp3)

#21 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- Beat The Odds (1975)
FOUND by me.

#22 -- [USA] TV Series -- The Joker's Wild (1973) [Prize Music]
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/22_USA_TVseries_JokersWild1973PrizeA.mp3)

#23 -- [USA] TV Series -- The Movie Game (1969) [2nd Theme]
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/23_USA_TVseries_MovieGame1969.mp3)

#24 -- [USA] TV Pilot -- Money In The Blank (1987)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/24_USA_TVpilot_MoneyInTheBlank1987.mp3)

#25 -- [USA] TV Series -- Hollywood's Talking (1973)
Listen Here. (http://az261.x10.mx/LMT/25_USA_TVseries_HollywoodsTalking1973.mp3) This tune is basically "Virgo", but from which performer? Like were there covers of this tune by other folks?

I had no idea Rod Serling even hosted a game show! That's an odd ball one...and seeing a young Betty White and a VERY young Dick Galitier is a trip!

Can't ID any of these unfortunately, but I will say the last one (pinball report from 1978 on ABC) i've heard before and is familiar.

Man, I like that first Liar's Club track! Can't help you with it or the two other cues you seek, though, although that first jazzy vibe track sounds kinda British to my ears.

The 3rd video's music was also used on the Canadian game show The Mad Dash from 1979. I didn't see a composer listed, although for stock music they rarely are.

For the 1st video, it sounded like Keith Papworth of DeWolfe, because of his music from 1967 DWLP 3024 record "Silk Organdie".

Just found the unknown Don Adams track. It's "Show Music #2" by Neil Amsterdam, originally from Capitol Hi-Q X-163/164.

Thanks for the info, it helped. Although I found it under a different name.

I found the track here, under "1940s": https://soundcloud.com/ole-georg/sets

The track is called "Showtime #7". No word on the artist, but nonetheless, a great tune.

EDIT: Apparently it's under the track "Show Biz Unlimited" as well...okay, nevermind, I'll presume the SoundCloud listing is incorrectly listed.

Can't help you with the Split Personality track, but the Sale of the Century tracks sound very German. Mozart Edition or Selected Sound, maybe?

'Sale Of The Century' is 'Clap Surf' by Alf Beckstein, released in the UK on Harmonic CBK 636 (and commercially released on several different labels in Europe)

Thanks for the info, Lord Thames. Is there a website that showcases Harmonic Mood Music's library of production music, where I could find the song?

Actually, most of the cues in albums with the "CBG" prefix licensed through Brilliant Musik are available to listen to on Extreme Music's website, albeit under different titles.

All right, found #8.

It's "Sports Page" by Keith Andrew Roberts from the Conroy/Berry Music library.

There was a tune that sounded similar to #3 while I was sifting through the Conroy music library on EMI Play (https://www.emipm.com/en/). It was "Disco King" by Keith Mansfield. I'm wondering if the theme for Mad Dash was by Keith Mansfield. I'll have to do more digging.

#10 is custom music by Arlo. As it says in the closing credits.

For #10, I forgot to add that the music was also used on cartoon episodes of The King And Odie. I'm not sure if Arlo also did music for the 1960s cartoon.

As for the credits of The Celebirty Game, the live music may have been Arlo (such as for some incidental cues on the show).

ClassicThemes.com says that the "Stump the Stars" track is "Up Beat" by Paul Fenoulhet, from the Impress library, but can't find a copy presently. However, another member here has it and says he'd transfer it for me sometime, but hasn't gotten back to me yet.

Oh that's new. Where on their website does it say that?

The only page I'm aware of is this:
http://www.classicthemes.com/50sTVThemes/themePages/pantomimeQuiz.html

It was referencing two possible versions. One from KPM (which it isn't), and another from the Josef Weinberger library. Is Impress owned by JW? Okay, so it is.

Thank you Craig-UK for the information. Much appreciated.

I used the website www.midomi.com to try an have it ID some songs, but they haven't worked. Also the website doesn't seem to be working for me, the part of the website where it listens to the music is throwing an error.

I guess Shazam has a bigger database. I should install it on my cell phone to try it out.

Yeah Shazam and YouTube are the two things I use for automated ID. I obviously do search libraries too.

Thank you Lord Thames for the info. I found the track for listening on the Standard Music Library website here:

http://www.standardmusiclibrary.com/music

And it's on a few albums other than ESL 120, so luckily I was able to retrieve it.

I also stumbled upon on another Joker's Wild 1972 prize cue while browsing the website, one that I haven't uploaded here yet (and won't have to in the future).

Small update with an additional tune to the list.

Also, which album would I find an instrumental version of "Mad Square Rock" by Jack Shaindlin?

The tune was used on Liars Club with Bill Armstrong back in the 1970s.

The vocal version I can hear on YouTube was from the Cinemusic Inc library, Stereo Production-Aids #1, 1970 (CMR 521).

I think #6 Might have been what Ken Aldin has done for Score Productions (also known as "Summit Communications" or "Omnisound").

I was thinking about the music coming from the album "Meet The Gang" from Golden Ring Records A 30 006 RM. The only place I found where I could listen to music from the album was this YouTube link:

Around 3:46 starts the theme to The $10,000 Pyramid.

That's where the music "Tuning Up" came from, composed by Ken Aldin. However, I haven't come across the album to listen to each track to find out if that early opening tune came from there.

I'm not aware of Ken Aldin composing for Score Productions. I know that music company was popular in making themes for American TV programmes during the late 1960s, to early 1990s.

d_dgjdhh: I agree with you 100%--Ken Aldin was not contracted by Score Productions to compose any themes at any time.

"Ken Aldin" isn't a real person, of course. It's well-known that its one of German composer Jurgen Franke's aliases. He's also credited using other aliases such as Frank Mantis and Juan Demonio.
